Who are we?
Brooklyn Allergy Mom Bakes My Cake is an allergen-free, gluten-free vegan bakery created by Heidi Bayer, the mom of a child who has over thirty food allergies from birth, and who has allergies herself. For over 13 years, Heidi has dedicated herself to finding ways to make every day foods, without every day ingredients such as dairy, wheat/gluten, eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, seeds, white potato and more without sacrificing taste or quality.
Where is our facility?
We are
located in Brooklyn, New York. Currently, I cook out of my kitchen. Because of
the copious amounts of allergies that my family has, we are very aware of
cross-contamination and keep the kitchen free from accidental cross-contact that
can easily happen in commercial kitchens or shared facilities. We deliver in the United States and in New York City for an additional charge.
What does “Allergen-Free” mean?
Allergen-free refers to products that are free of the current top 8 allergens as recognized by the FDA. Those allergens are: dairy, wheat, eggs, soy, shellfish, fish, tree nuts (including coconut) and peanuts. We bake items that are free of white potato, all seeds and legumes.
How do you ensure your ingredients are “Allergen-Free”?
We are only as good as our ingredients. We only use products whose companies are complicant with FALCPA (Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004) laws. FALCPA law requires that food labels identify the food source names of all major food allergens used to make the food. (http://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceComplianceRegulatoryInformation/GuidanceDocuments/FoodLabelingNutrition/FoodLabelingGuide/ucm064880.htm). *DIsclaimer: While careful labeling has helped the allergic community, there is some risk that a supplier has cross-contamination which is why we list our suppliers. If you have any questions, please contact the manufacturer directly before buying our products. We use Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips which are produced in a dedicated allergen-free facility. Our flours are Azteca Maseca (corn flour), Arrowhead Mills, and Argo. The gluten-free vanilla we use is Nielsen-Massey. Please contact us if you need any more information about other ingredients.
Do you use processed white sugar?
Yes, we use white processed sugar. We would consider using alternate ingredients upon request as long as they are consistent with “My Cake” Allergen-Free policy.
What if I have anaphylactic food reactions?
Before you purchase our products, please check with a board certified allergist for what is safe for you, your family and friends before consuming any baked good. We’re available anytime to answer questions bklynallergymom@gmail.com
Do you use any of the top 8 allergens in your facility?
Presently, we do not bake with any other allergens in our facility.
Is there soy-lecithin in your baked goods?
